Software Test Engineer
Do you thrive on driving automation to boost efficiency, conducting end‑to‑end testing, and collaborating closely with a dedicated team? If so, we invite you to join our forward‑thinking Research & Development team at ABLOY in Joensuu, Finland, in a one‑year fixed‑term role.

By combining digital and mechanical expertise, ABLOY develops industry‑leading solutions that protect people, property, and businesses. It is part of the ASSA ABLOY Group, the global leader in access solutions. Every day, we help billions of people experience a more open world.
From engineering and technology to software development, we offer diverse opportunities for talented individuals with skill, determination, and drive—people who want to strengthen trust in society and contribute to a safer, more secure future.
What you would do as our Software Test Engineer:
You would take ownership of the end‑to‑end testing platform for ABLOY Cumulus – The Key to Keyless Solutions and support our teams in designing effective test strategies within our Research & Development unit.
You would also:
- Champion continuous learning and experimentation, embracing failures as natural steps toward innovation and improvement.
- Collaborate closely with the team, using practices such as pair programming and shared design reviews to ensure high-quality, well-thought-out solutions.
- Uphold uncompromising quality standards by writing comprehensive tests, refactoring with confidence, and maintaining clean, reliable code.
- Drive automation to enhance efficiency, reducing manual effort so the team can focus on solving meaningful and challenging problems.
- Contribute to fast, dependable delivery, working with short release cycles, trunk-based development, and decoupled feature releases for smooth deployment flows.
The skills and experience you need
We are looking for someone who has:
- Strong technical skills in test automation, including Python for API/service testing and tooling, mobile automation for iOS/Android (Robot Framework/Appium), and browser automation for web applications using TypeScript (Playwright/WebTest family).
- Robust test strategy and governance capabilities, including defining risk‑based testing approaches (unit → integration → E2E), conducting design and testability reviews, setting quality gates, maintaining traceability, and owning the evolution of the E2E platform (Robot Framework) while driving manual → automated test migration in CI/CD.
- A strong passion for software development and continuous learning, along with a proactive mindset to improve processes, contribute without prompting, and grow as part of a collaborative, open, and improvement‑driven team culture.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, able to confidently present and defend viewpoints while remaining open to the ideas and perspectives of others; fluency in English (spoken and written) is required.
- Expertise in scalable collaboration practices, such as enabling test contributions through templates, reviews, pairing, and coding standards, and coaching teams to design for testability rather than acting as the sole author of tests.
