Position Summary:

ASSA ABLOY Shree Mahavir Metalcraft Pvt. Ltd. is seeking a highly motivated Automation Engineer – Smart Manufacturing to drive automation, digitalization, and process optimization initiatives across manufacturing operations. The role is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining automation systems that enhance productivity, quality, efficiency, and workplace safety.

The incumbent will work closely with Production, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and external technology partners to deliver automation projects involving robotics, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, sensors, IoT-enabled solutions, and automated inspection and material handling systems, supporting the organization's Smart Manufacturing and Industry 4.0 journey.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing Automation

  • Design, develop, and implement automation solutions for manufacturing processes, including SPM machines, Press machines, Electroplating and Electrophoresis process, Pressure Die Casting (PDC) machines, assembly lines, lock testing machines, door handle assembly stations, polishing and buffing machines, packaging machines, and material handling systems.
  • Lead end-to-end automation projects involving PLC programming, HMI development, SCADA systems, servo motion applications, machine control systems, interlocking systems, and production line integration.
  • Drive automation initiatives to reduce manual operations through robotic pick-and-place systems, automated feeding systems, industrial robotics, vision inspection systems, poka-yoke solutions, and automated material transfer systems.
  • Identify and implement low-cost automation solutions to improve productivity, efficiency, and operational reliability.

Mechanical Automation & Machine Design

  • Design automation fixtures, machine mechanisms, and customized manufacturing solutions to enhance process efficiency.
  • Develop pneumatic and hydraulic automation systems, including circuit design, actuation systems, and motion control mechanisms.
  • Design rotary indexing systems, automated conveyors, part feeding and orientation mechanisms, and machine retrofit solutions.
  • Develop robotic End-of-Arm Tooling (EOAT), grippers, and automation accessories for manufacturing applications.
  • Analyze manufacturing processes to identify cycle time reduction opportunities and process optimization initiatives.

Electrical Automation & Controls

  • Develop, program, commission, and troubleshoot PLC-based automation systems using Delta, XINJE, and other industrial PLC platforms.
  • Design and develop HMI applications, operator interfaces, machine dashboards, alarm systems, and production monitoring solutions.
  • Configure and optimize VFDs, servo drives, stepper drives, and motion control systems for high-performance machine operations.
  • Design, integrate, and validate industrial control systems including sensors, vision systems, safety controls, emergency stop circuits, and machine interlocks.
  • Develop electrical panel layouts, wiring schematics, and control architectures in compliance with industrial standards.

Robotics & Vision Systems

  • Implement and optimize industrial robotics applications for machine loading/unloading, assembly, pick-and-place, and material handling operations.
  • Work with robotic platforms such as ABB, FANUC, Yaskawa, and KUKA to enhance manufacturing automation.
  • Develop and maintain machine vision systems for quality inspection, defect detection, component verification, barcode scanning, and traceability applications.
  • Support collaborative robot (Cobot) integration and advanced robotic automation initiatives.

Industry 4.0 & Smart Manufacturing

  • Lead digital manufacturing initiatives through machine connectivity, IoT integration, data acquisition, and real-time production analytics.
  • Develop and maintain performance dashboards for OEE, MTBF, MTTR, energy consumption, production tracking, quality monitoring, machine utilization, and downtime analysis.
  • Implement SCADA systems, cloud-based monitoring platforms, Andon systems, and predictive maintenance solutions.
  • Support smart factory development programs and industrial digitalization initiatives.

Automation Project Management

  • Conduct feasibility studies and develop technical specifications, automation concepts, and business justifications for automation projects.
  • Manage project execution from concept through commissioning, ensuring adherence to budgets, timelines, and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate with machine manufacturers, system integrators, vendors, and cross-functional teams for successful project delivery.
  • Lead Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), installation, commissioning, validation, and qualification activities.
  • Establish project documentation standards and ensure smooth project handover to operations and maintenance teams.

Process Improvement & Operational Excellence

  • Identify automation opportunities to improve productivity, quality, safety, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Drive lean automation initiatives focused on cycle time reduction, waste elimination, and process standardization.
  • Implement error-proofing (Poka-Yoke) systems to improve product quality and minimize defects.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing process capability, equipment reliability, and cost optimization.

Maintenance & Technical Support

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, robotics, motion control systems, and industrial automation equipment.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions to improve equipment reliability and uptime.
  • Develop preventive maintenance strategies and standards for automation and control systems.
  • Provide technical support during equipment breakdowns and critical production issues.

 

 

Safety, Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure compliance with machine safety regulations, electrical standards, and industry best practices.
  • Perform machine risk assessments and implement safety interlocks, safeguarding systems, and emergency stop circuits.
  • Prepare and maintain complete technical documentation, including control logic, electrical schematics, panel layouts, operating procedures, validation records, and project documentation.
  • Support audits, compliance reviews, and safety improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.

Training & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Train operators, technicians, and maintenance teams on automation systems, troubleshooting, and safe operation practices.
  • Develop user manuals, troubleshooting guides, and technical training materials.
  • Collaborate closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, and external stakeholders to drive automation and process improvement initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, automation, continuous improvement, and digital transformation across the organization.


Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong expertise in PLC, HMI, and SCADA programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial robotics platforms such as ABB, FANUC, Yaskawa, or KUKA.
  • Sound knowledge of industrial automation hardware, control systems, sensors, actuators, servo drives, and motion control applications.
  • Understanding of industrial communication protocols such as Profinet, Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, and DeviceNet.
  • Familiarity with electrical control panels, pneumatics, hydraulics, and machine control systems.
  • Ability to diagnose, optimize, and continuously improve automated manufacturing systems.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or similar CAD software for electrical and control system design.
  • Strong analytical thinking, troubleshooting skills, and project execution capabilities.
  • Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in: BE/BTech(Eelectrical/Mechanical/Mechatronics/Instrumentation Engineering)
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent engineering software is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.


Experience

  • 4–5 years of relevant experience in Industrial Automation, Robotics, PLC Programming, Manufacturing Automation, or Machine Integration.
  • Experience within manufacturing industries such as engineering products, metal fabrication, automotive components, industrial hardware, or automated production environments will be preferred.
