Senior Embedded Software Engineer & Team Lead

Define the Software Architecture Powering Next-Generation Smart Access Solutions.

Location: Ettenheim, Germany (Hybrid) | Team Leadership | Architecture | Embedded Systems

At ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems, you’ll define system-level architecture, guide development teams, and ensure designs are robust, scalable, and compliant — solving complex system-level challenges that impact millions globally.

In this role, you combine technical leadership, architecture ownership, and hands-on engineering.

What you will work on

• Own and evolve embedded software architecture – Define system structure, module boundaries, interfaces, and technology choices across the PU SEC product portfolio.

• Lead and empower the software team within an agile environment – Guide and mentor a team of 6 developers, foster collaboration and ownership, and continuously improve Scrum-based processes and workflows.

• Ensure seamless system integration – Combine software, firmware, electronics, and mechanical components into robust, scalable solutions.

• Drive software quality and technical excellence – Establish coding standards, modularity principles, testing strategies, and CI/CD pipelines that ensure maintainable, high-quality embedded systems.

• Support functional safety and compliance – Translate ISO 13849 and other regulatory requirements into architectural decisions and guide safe, compliant system design.

• Introduce AI-enabled engineering practices – Explore and implement AI-assisted tools for coding, static analysis, testing, and documentation to strengthen productivity and consistency.

What will help you succeed

Embedded & hands-on engineering expertise – Deep experience in C++ for embedded and real-time systems, with strong understanding of hardware–software interaction, electromechanical systems (motors, sensors, controllers), and ability to contribute directly to development and debugging.

Architectural and system thinking – Proven ability to design modular software architectures, define interfaces, and guide system-level integration across firmware, electronics, and mechanical components.

AI-enabled engineering mindset – Experience with or strong interest in AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering quality and efficiency.

Quality and compliance focus – Solid understanding of CI/CD, automated testing, and functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 13849), with ability to translate safety and regulatory requirements into robust architectural decisions.

Collaborative leadership – Experience mentoring engineers, facilitating technical discussions, and guiding teams toward pragmatic, well-balanced technical solutions within agile processes.
