Profile Summary

Supports Physical Access Control Solutions (PACS) Business Area by validating the successful integration and performance of Physical Access Systems comprising of, but not limited to: Authentication Credentials and services (Physical and Mobile), Authentication Devices, Access Control Devices and Device/System Management. What problems will we be solving?

How can we objectively and quantitatively characterize the full experience of using mobile access solutions built around our (HID) platforms inclusive of the major person types.

As part of this, how to identify what a good experience looks like, how to measure whether we’ve achieved it, and identify where specific aspects need to be improved (and by how much).


General Characteristics of the role:

  • Have or acquires the necessary skills to apply engineering theory and principles to real world products and solutions.
  • Expected to perform basic to moderately complex engineering tasks under the supervision of more experienced engineers, while gaining the skills and experience needed to take on more complex tasks.
  • Able to work on tasks assigned associated with improvements or extensions to existing products or solutions, such that pragmatic product knowledge is acquired.
  • Demonstrate basic engineering competencies with the aim of solidifying understanding of core fundamental concepts.
  • Focus on growing as an engineer by learning the team’s tools and current processes.
  • Develop productivity skills and learn about engineering best practices.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:

As an Associate Quality Assurance Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our MA solutions from a user perspective. You will be responsible for executing test plans, identifying UX and usability issues as well as defects, and communicating findings effectively to stakeholders. This role is ideal for someone who is eager to grow as a UX QA engineer, learn new tools and processes, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our MA Solutions.

Specific duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned as required.

  • Integrates all aspects of HID’s PACS Portfolio and reports on system/solution performance, stability, and user experience.
  • Undertakes to test solutions in different real-world environments.
  • Maintains the Systems/Solution lab such that it can function 24/7, integrating new products or upgrades into the overall Solution Test Bench as and when they become available from the respective development teams.
  • Uses relevant mobile devices and wearables for incorporation into test equipment for MA UX testing.
  • Executes, under supervision, Test plans and Test runs which validate Systems/Solution level performance and key Non-Functional Requirements.
  • Sets up PACS test environments including wiring of readers, controllers and other hardware as required.
  • Contributes to the design and implementation of test solutions under supervision of the manager and senior staff within the team. Develops an appreciation of how the product under test integrates with the overall solution.
  • Contributes to identifying use-case scenarios to facilitate Ux testing of product features.
  • Able to perform tests to a given script (Manual or Automated). Contributes to the development of tools and test systems to support required automation.
  • Able to identify defects reliably, and to communicate defects accurately using suitable and appropriate tools.
  • Develops an awareness of TDD and shift-left approaches to proactively identify potential Ux pain points in the product, well before launch.
  • Aware of Functional and non-functional Testing Techniques
  • Contributes to improving delivery.
  • Using evidence to document test results
  • Attend regular Pulse meetings and reports on Test Planning, Scope, and Test status
  • Conference with other HID personnel and senior team members to clarify or resolve problems.
  • Undertake assignments to support the PACS Development Roadmap and associated Value Streams.

 

Technology Stack Experience (in support of testing)

  • Any previous experience or exposure to User Experience (Ux) testing or User Acceptance testing (UAT) of Mobile Apps (iOS or Android) and/or Web apps and Client Facing Web Portals, is highly desirable.
  • Experience with any one of the following programming languages including embedded programming of IoT hardware (C, C++, C#, Python, Java, XAML, etc.) is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Experience with operating systems, such as Android, iOS, and Linux.
  • Experience or exposure with software testing methodologies (Black box, white box, functional and non-functional) within the context of the SDLC (Desirable).
  • Experience with or exposure to any defect and bug tracking tools such as Jira, Confluence or similar is (Desirable).
  • Experience with or exposure to any test management tools such as TestRail or similar is (Desirable).
  • Experience with or exposure to any visual collaboration/whiteboarding tools such as Miro or similar (Desirable).
  • Experience with any application development environments including embedded: .Net, Visual Studio, Arduino IDE, Raspberry PI or similar (Desirable).
  • Experience or exposure to API testing and scripting via Postman or similar tools (Desirable).
  • Knowledge of SQL or other databases (Desirable).

 

Desired Skills & Experience Or Qualification:

  • Possesses a relevant degree or equivalent qualification and 2-3 years of software or Mobile App testing experience including UAT/UX.
  • Ideally, possess an ISTQB CFTL or UX/UAT testing certification (highly desirable).
  • Comfortable with working with physical products and hardware, including basic wiring from product datasheets, networking, and working with lab test equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, and other wireless communication tools such as BLE/NFC sniffers etc.
  • Previous exposure to Physical Access Control products including installation and configuration under real world conditions would be highly desirable.
  • The ability to drive continuous product/solution quality based on real-world experiences and practices is paramount.
  • Possesses or applies comprehensive knowledge principles, practices, and procedures over a wide range of PACS Systems and Solutions.

Experience with the following desirable:

  • Lean and Agile methodologies, including SAFe.
  • Access Control management via Head-End or IAM Systems.
  • May expand knowledge and skills to related sets of job duties as required.

 

Communication Skills                   

  • Ability to effectively communicate in the English language verbally and in writing.
  • Able to gather and report on systems performance in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical journals, specifications, international technical standards, etc.
  • Communicate status to your manager and team effectively.
