Sr. Manufacturing Engineer

 

Job Summary

Plans, directs and coordinates manufacturing process and tooling improvements in the Denison facility. Develops, evaluates and improves manufacturing methods, using knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods and quality control standards. Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, workflow and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency. Estimates production times, staffing requirements and related costs. Apply statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements.  Coach project engineers and tooling engineer on successful design and project management methodologies.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • (25%) Coach and assist in development of tooling and project engineers.
    • Train tooling design methodologies
    • Train failure analysis methodologies for improvement opportunities
    • Train project management methodologies
  • (25%) Completes productivity projects involving process, tool and part redesign
  • (25%) Applies lean and six sigma tools to improve production efficiencies while reducing operating cost.
  • (10%) Plan and implement new tools in support of new product introduction and productivity projects
  •  (10%) Leader of continuous improvement effort for new tooling area.  Show year over year improvement in total output, quality and service level.  This is to be achieved through capital improvement and development/implementation of standardized tooling control policies and procedures.
  •  (5%) Follow and implement EHS policy. Create safe working environment

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Train plant personnel in World Class Techniques (Process Yield Improvement, Problem Solving, Process Monitoring, Cost Reduction, Lean Manufacturing, Quality, Six Sigma, and Safety) 
  • Support and/or close a minimum of 2 Six Sigma/MCTO projects per year to support business objectives.
  • Other duties as required by supervisor.

 

Education and Experience Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent
  • ASQ Six Sigma Green Belt certification required. Lean Manufacturing experience preferred.
  • 10+ years related experience preferred, including experience in Lean Manufacturing Methods
  • Capital project management experience preferred

 

Required Skills

  • Understanding of industrial manufacturing operations and cell manufacturing processes
  • Understanding and working knowledge of statistics
  • Heavy emphasis on machining and assembly operations, tooling evaluation, vendor qualification and cost savings through improved processes
  • Time management and prioritization skills, sense of ‘urgency’
  • Self-directed and organized with high attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to interact with team members and customers professionally
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical specifications required
  • Able to analyze input data to maximize the output on a  process

Work Environment:

 

Working conditions are normal for an office environment and non-climate controlled manufacturing facility.

 

Must be able to travel domestically 5% of time and internationally 5% of time.
