SUMMARY:

The Solution Architect (SA) works within a targeted domain and focuses on the conversion of requirements into software solutions.  The SA leverages experience in developing the blueprint for an IT solution, consistent with company standards and industry best practices.  Responsibilities include working with business users to define the project scope; developing architecture and detail design; formulating and executing project plans.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design and define scalable, secure, and high-performance Java-based application architectures.
• Translate application requirements into software solutions that adhere to software architecture and implementation standards.
• Lead architecture discussions and provide technical guidance to development teams.
• Define technology stacks, frameworks, and development standards for projects.
• Design and implement microservices, REST APIs, and integration solutions.
• Review application designs and code to ensure quality, scalability, and compliance with application requirements and implementation standards.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, project managers, and cross-functional teams to deliver software solutions that meet business needs and expectations.
• Ensure application security through industry-standard authentication, authorization, and data protection mechanisms.
• Identify and resolve performance, scalability, and reliability challenges.
• Define database, messaging, and integration architectures to support software solutions.
• Establish architecture governance, best practices, and technical standards across projects.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions to improve business outcomes.
• Mentor developers and technical leads on architecture principles and best practices.
• Conduct architecture reviews, risk assessments, and technical solution evaluations.
• Support project estimation, technical planning, and solution roadmaps.
• Identify technical risks and provide mitigation strategies.
• Develop and finalize solution proposal and/or presentation of recommended solutions.
• Ensure solutions are maintainable, reusable, and aligned with software solution objectives.
• Developing software using JAVA, Spring framework, Hibernate, MySQL, Smart GWT framework.

RELATIONSHIPS/CONTACTS:

• Reports directly to the Manager, Application Development. 
• Works with employees at all levels of the organization. 
• This position does not have any direct reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet expectations of each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required.

EDUCATION:

Preferred graduate degree in computer science/engineering/information technology.

EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum 15+ years of progressive experience in Java application development, solution architecture, system design, and enterprise application delivery.
• Minimum 4+ years of experience in a Solution Architect or Technical Architect role, designing and delivering large-scale, mission-critical applications.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE and/or ABILITIES:

• Extensive experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale applications using Java and related technologies.
• Strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Hibernate/JPA, and RESTful API development.
• Experience designing and implementing Microservices Architectures and distributed systems.
• Proficiency with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Strong knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Proficiency with build and dependency management tools such as Maven and Gradle.
• Strong experience with Git-based source code management and branching strategies.
• Expertise in relational databases, data modelling, SQL optimization, and database integration.
• Strong knowledge of application security, authentication, authorization, OAuth2, JWT, and secure coding practices.
• Experience conducting architecture reviews, defining technical standards, and establishing governance frameworks.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design principles, design patterns, and software architecture best practices.
• Ability to evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that align with business and technical objectives.
