Senior Lead AX and D365 Developer

     

 

Job Summary:

  • We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Dynamics D365 F&O and AX (2009, 2012) Senior Developer to design, develop, and maintain customizations and integrations across all three ERP platforms. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in MorphX and X++ and has delivered complex ERP solutions in sales, manufacturing, distribution, and finance domains.
  • The EMEIA ERP landscape is built on Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009, AX 2012 R2, and D365 F&O as heavily customized solutions that deliver ERP processes across the EMEIA application landscape. This landscape is the most critical part of the EMEIA application estate and a key enabler for businesses across the region. A D365 F&O rollout to Spain and France commenced in 2025, with further country deployments planned.
  • The EMEIA division is looking to appoint a Senior Developer to strengthen EMEIA IT development delivery. The role sits within the EMEIA IT team, reporting to the IT Operations Manager, and works closely with the ERP systems and integrated platforms that span EMEIA IT domains.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • The Senior Developer will be part of the ERP Service Delivery organization spanning EMEIA, working closely with the ERP Programe Team, the ERP Community, and stakeholders to ensure a consistently high level of ERP service and experience.
  • Provide technical leadership and hands-on development to ensure the D365 F&O ERP solution performs to specification, meets all requirements, and is maintainable long-term. Work in close collaboration with business and functional stakeholders throughout the delivery lifecycle.


Development & Customization

  • Design and develop customizations using X++ and the MorphX IDE.
  • Build and maintain forms, reports (MorphX / SSRS), classes, and data models.
  • Develop and support AOT (Application Object Tree) customizations.
  • Develop D365 F&O extensions, custom models, and solutions in X++ following Microsoft’s extensibility-first guidelines (no overlayering).

 

Integration

  • Integrate AX and D365 F&O with external systems via AIF (Application Integration Framework), DMF, web services, COM/ODBC, and OData/REST APIs.
  • Design and implement integration patterns appropriate to the target platform and business requirements.

 

Quality & Governance

  • Troubleshoot performance issues and debug complex X++ code.
  • Collaborate with functional consultants to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Document technical specifications, design decisions, and customizations.
  • Conduct code reviews and enforce coding standards across the development team.
  • Support upgrade assessments and assist in migrations to newer Dynamics versions.
  • Utilize Lifecycle Services (LCS) to manage and deploy D365 F&O environments, including updates and customizations. 

 

Education and/or Experience         

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • 12+ years of total professional experience in Microsoft Dynamics development.
  • Minimum 7+ years of hands-on development experience across AX 2009, AX 2012, and D365 F&O (all three versions required).
  • Proven AX implementation experience in relevant business modules.
  • Strong experience in ERP integration with external systems.
  • Good understanding of ERP architecture including design, configuration, implementation, and support, as well as table structures for relevant modules.

 

Language Skills 

  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical journals, specifications, and international technical standards.

 

Computer Skills  

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Familiar with Windows operating systems and standard enterprise tooling.

Technical Skills

Core Development

  • Expert-level X++ programming in both Visual Studio (D365) and MorphX IDE (AX 2009/2012).
  • Deep understanding of the AX and D365 F&O data models across Inventory, Finance, and Trade & Logistics modules.
  • Strong knowledge of the AX 2012 layering model (SYS, VAR, CUS, USR). – Required.
  • Strong knowledge of the D365 F&O extensibility framework: extensions, event handlers, and Chain of Command (CoC). – Required.

 

Reporting & Data

  • Proficiency in SSRS reporting and DIXF / DMF (Data Import/Export Framework).
  • Familiarity with SQL Server and AX / D365 F&O database architecture.
  • .NET interop and AIF services experience.

 

DevOps & Tooling

  • Lifecycle Services (LCS) for environment management and deployments.
  • Version control via Azure DevOps (Git / TFS / GitHub).
  • Experience working in Agile / Scrum delivery frameworks.
  • Proficiency with GitHub Copilot or equivalent AI-assisted development tooling. – Required.

 

IT Service Management

  • Working knowledge of ITIL IT Service Management principles.

 

Additional Experience

  • Highly skilled in standard software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices.
  • Sound understanding of software development principles and best practices.
  • Knowledge of formal software release and deployment management.
  • Experience working in a global organization with geographically dispersed, multicultural, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong background in developing within and integrating to various external systems
