Senior Engineer - Hosting Patching & Automation
We are seeking experienced and motivated infrastructure engineers with strong patching, vulnerability remediation, and scripting/automation skills to join our server hosting team. You will be responsible for ensuring patch compliance and vulnerability remediation across Windows and Linux environments in our global datacenters.
You will primarily leverage your expertise in patch management processes, automation scripting, and working with BigFix to drive secure and compliant server environments.
This role is located at ASSA ABLOY Global IT. You will be part of a global team, interacting with our customers and vendors in other regions (EMEA, Americas, APAC). Occasional international travel may occur.
Who You Are
You are a system administrator or infrastructure engineer with expertise in patching, vulnerability remediation, and scripting/automation. You have hands-on experience managing and patching both Windows and Linux servers in enterprise environments.
While the majority of our workloads are Windows-based, Linux patching is also an essential part of this role. You may have previously worked with tools like BigFix, SCCM, WSUS, Ivanti, or ZENworks — and while we use BigFix, we believe strong patching and scripting skills are transferable across tools.
You write clean, reusable scripts and leverage automation to solve operational challenges. You value documentation, process consistency, and structured change management. Most importantly, you want to take ownership of patching and vulnerability remediation across Windows and Linux environments in a global enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
Patch & Vulnerability Management
Implement and maintain patching strategies to ensure Windows and Linux servers remain secure and compliant.
Work closely with Security and Vulnerability Management teams to identify and remediate vulnerabilities using BigFix or similar tools.
Collaborate with change management teams to schedule and deploy patches systematically across both operating systems.
Use BigFix (primary tool) to drive patch deployment, compliance tracking, and reporting — with training provided if you come from another tool.
Own the end-to-end tracking and reporting of patch compliance and vulnerability remediation progress.
Automation & Scripting
Develop automation scripts (PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar) to improve patching, compliance tracking, and reporting.
Develop and maintain BigFix Action Scripts and Relevance Queries (training provided if needed) to extend platform capabilities.
Continuously identify areas for automation to improve patching and vulnerability remediation processes.
Platform Management
Manage the HCL BigFix infrastructure to ensure patching coverage for both Windows and Linux environments.
Develop and maintain custom Fixlets, Baselines, and Analyses to support patching requirements.
Monitor BigFix agent health across both Windows and Linux systems and take corrective actions as needed.
Training & Documentation
Define and document patching procedures, automation scripts, and custom BigFix configurations for cross-team collaboration.
Provide training and mentorship to L2/L3 support teams on patching best practices for Windows and Linux.
Incident Response Support
Collaborate with Incident Response teams during emergency patching scenarios for security vulnerabilities.
Support audit and compliance reporting related to patching and remediation efforts.
Qualifications
5+ years of hands-on experience in infrastructure administration with patch management and vulnerability remediation across Windows and Linux environments.
Strong experience with any major patching platform (BigFix, SCCM, WSUS, Ivanti, ZENworks, or similar). Prior BigFix experience is a plus, but training will be provided.
Proficiency in scripting (PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar) to automate patching and reporting tasks.
Expertise in Windows Server administration, with practical experience managing Linux systems (RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS, or similar).
Familiarity with virtualization platforms (VMware/Hyper-V), networking fundamentals, and security best practices.
Experience working in change-controlled environments, with a strong process and compliance mindset.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Soft Skills
Strong problem-solving mindset — you look for smart solutions rather than manual work.
Comfortable working independently while collaborating globally across time zones.
Strong communication and documentation skills for cross-team collaboration.
Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tools and processes.
Why This Role Matters
This is a critical infrastructure role focused on ensuring that our global hosting environment remains secure, compliant, and efficiently patched. If you enjoy working at the intersection of infrastructure, security, and automation, this is the perfect fit
