Overview

A Cloud Engineer with experience in building enterprise grade web services.  Candidates should be familiar with "Cloud Native Applications".  Candidates may be expected to work at any level of the product, including setting up best-automated deployments to developing top-notch REST interfaces.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Establish, and participate in, regular analysis and technical review meetings with development teams to ensure business requirements are understood and are being addressed appropriately.
• Be an advocate for innovation – encourage and manage the flow of new ideas, technologies and opportunities through assessment, proof of concept, business case and ultimately delivery to market.
• A key focus will be on the approved product roadmap and contributing to the technical strategy and architectural runway whilst considering and supporting the customer projects which drive and influence this.
• Contribute to the technical strategy of the company. Provide technical leadership to other teams. Facilitate the development and adoption of best practices.
• Work closely with Customers, Sales, and Commercial teams to understand and document customer-specific project requirements, architectural artefacts, and technical specifications.
• Represent the business in all acceptance activities relating to the development lifecycle, ensuring that all business requirements and interests are accounted for.
• Create new sources of solutions and ultimately new products for business, ensuring alignment to sales and business strategic priorities.
• Provide architectural support to product management and software development teams. Analyze and critique product requirements and specifications throughout the product lifecycle to best exploit and further develop platform ecosystems.
• Work with the wider R&D community both internally and externally to design, architect and develop converged technology to integrate with our business.
• Ensure security, privacy and quality best practices and standards are followed including the HID Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDL) along with security and privacy by design principles; oversee software certification, standards, and acceptance processes to ensure the business is delivered high quality, compelling software, and platforms.
• Monitor industry, competitor, and technology trends to understand how they can influence our development roadmaps and strategy.
• Monitor and assess all technical relationships with 3rd party suppliers – ensure they are aligned with overall product strategy and deliver compelling solutions.
• Able to conduct customer site visits, elicit requirements and conceptualize the customer’s need as a discrete work package within the bounds of our current offerings.
• Assist with hands-on development activities as required to support the business.
• Create a proof of concept and demonstration capabilities.
• Provide product and platform support to our technical pre-sales and sales teams.
• Provide key input to enable the completion of Sales proposals and opportunity cost models including effort estimations, as required.

Technical Requirements:

• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
• Able to quickly grasp & interpret technical journals, specifications, standards, etc.
• Strong hands-on understanding of non-functional requirements including scalability, security, privacy, high availability, and operational requirements.
• Expert-level experience with backend and mobile technology stacks.
• Knowledge of mobile security, APIs, and architectures (iOS/Android).
• Knowledge of cryptographic algorithms including PKI & cryptography toolkits (PKCS#11, Bouncy Castle, etc.).
• Knowledge of security and authentication protocols (TLS, OAuth2, OIDC, etc.)
• Knowledge of continuous integration CI/CD process pipelines. Specific knowledge of orchestration and automated deployment would be an advantage.
• Knowledge of Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) or smart cards.
• Knowledge of security threat model creation (DFD diagrams, STRIDE, etc.).
• Strong knowledge of the web, backend, and mobile architectures, Node.js, JavaScript, Microsoft C# & .NET core tech stack.
• Experience in native mobile development for Android/iOS (Kotlin/Swift) or cross-platform technologies (e.g., Ionic Capacitor) would be advantageous.
• Database experience (Redis, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, etc.).
• Knowledge of the latest industry trends and technologies.
• Experience with RESTful web services & microservice architectures.
• Experience in developing cloud (AWS or Azure) and/or hybrid cloud solutions with integration with on-premises systems.
• Experience in designing, configuring and programmatically accessing databases.
• Strong DevOps experience using container & orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
• Experience with Atlassian suite: Jira, Confluence, etc.
• Experience with SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework).

Preferred Qualities:

• An undergraduate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required, with a graduate degree preferred.
• 12+ years of overall experience in the Application/Solution Development domain.
• 2+ years’ experience in software architecture or a strong technical lead role, developing and/or modifying complex technical architectures and developing strategies related to them.
• The candidate must have significant proven experience in an architecture or senior technical lead role and have delivered complex software solution projects within that time.
• The candidate should be commercially aware, understand contractual nuances and be able to grasp technical concepts quickly.
• Knowledge of full-stack complex mobile cloud/hybrid solutions with the ability to lead and recommend the best and most appropriate technology for the application.
• Demonstrable strong systems architecture background with experience in Cloud/hybrid computing architecture - AWS (preferred) or Azure.
