Job Description – IT Data Analyst - Software Asset & License Management

Location: Chennai

Role Summary

The IT Data Analyst - Software Asset & License Management is a technical role within the Global IT Software Asset Management (SAM) function. The role is responsible for engineering, operating, and optimizing software license management processes, data models, tooling, and reporting pipelines across the enterprise software portfolio.

The position focuses on technical license compliance analysis, entitlement reconciliation, usage metering, automation, and data-driven reporting, supporting key vendors such as Microsoft, Adobe (including Magento), VMware/Broadcom, TeamViewer, Zuora, Veeam, and other enterprise platforms.

Key Technical Responsibilities

Reporting, Analytics & Automation

- Connect/integrate data sources and build automated license and usage reports.

- Develop Power BI dashboards for compliance and forecasting.

- Automate recurring SAM processes using scripts, workflows, or AI tools.

Software Asset & License Data Management

- Maintain authoritative license data models including entitlements, contracts, usage, and deployments.

- Perform technical entitlement reconciliation between contracts, purchase records, and discovery data.

- Analyze complex licensing metrics such as user-based, device-based, core-based, and subscription models.

SAM Tooling & Platform Ownership

- Operate and configure enterprise SAM tools.

- Maintain software recognition rules, compliance calculations, and integrations.

- Collaborate with infrastructure teams to improve discovery and data quality.

License Compliance & Risk Management

- Conduct technical compliance assessments for major publishers.

- Identify compliance gaps and optimization opportunities.

- Support internal and external audits with defensible evidence.

Technical Skills & Competencies

- Minimum 3 to 5 Years experience required

- Strong understanding of enterprise software licensing models.

- Hands-on experience with SAM tools such as Snow, Flexera, or ServiceNow SAM or any similar tools.

- Advanced Excel skills and Power BI experience.

- Understanding of IT infrastructure, CMDB concepts, and discovery tools.

Education & Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.

Fluent English required.
