About the role

We are looking for a CNC Operator with programming experience for our Spence Doors business based in Cheltenham VIC.  The CNC Controller is critical to the production process and involves reading drawings and understanding the product dimensions to properly program machines.  The role is responsible for reading and interpreting design drawings, programming the various CNC machines, and adjusting and maintaining the machine and settings to achieve the required products / outputs.

 

1 x CNC Role within our metal frame workshop (Turret, Brake Press, Laser Cutter)

1 x CNC Role within our Timber Door workshop (5 Axis Router)

 

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities

  • Prepare and operate the CNC machines to perform required tasks such as routing, folding, cutting etc.
  • Understand specifications of the task at hand and the desired result by reading customer drawings, mechanical drawings etc.
  • Translate instructions into computer commands so the machines can perform the correct function
  • Resolve any discrepancies with project specific shop drawings with sales, engineering or customers to ensure that all products are fit for purpose
  • Set machines to complete full cycles to fabricate any numbers of parts
  • Monitor the machines while they execute the tasks and make any necessary adjustments to produce a better result
  • Inspect and measure finished products and compare them with requirements to determine if the process has been completed properly
  • Create and implement routine maintenance checklists and perform basic troubleshooting as required
  • Maintain machinery daily to ensure functionality

 

Key Position Criteria

  • Proven experience as CNC operator in a manufacturing environment (ideally building industry products - wood and or metal)
  • Demonstrated skills in operating CNC machinery and tooling as well as precision measurement tools
  • The ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and drawings
  • strong understanding of computer programming and CAD/CAM
  • Mechanical aptitude and good analytical skills
  • The ability to multi-task and well-developed problem-solving skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good team player with integrity, interpersonal, organization and time management skills.
  • Work well under pressure and able to work independently
  • Trade certificate or diploma in engineering or equivariant
