The General Manager position is based at our Pharr, TX facility and will also support our facility in Reynosa, MX.

 

Position Summary: The General Manager provides leadership, motivation and guidance to plant operations to include manufacturing, logistics, maintenance, manufacturing engineering, material control, purchasing, quality assurance and control, and tooling areas to enhance flexibility and to improve overall costs, quality, and on-time delivery of Company products.  Ensure efficient production of parts and products with the best material usage, quality levels, and service that exceed the customer’s expectations.  Responsible for ensuring all key measures are met from plant and business operations.  Lead and promote matters related to safety, health, environmental, labor control, equipment, material, processes, and customer relations.

 

 

  1. Description of Essential Job Functions:
  1. Lead, plan, and manage all manufacturing activities and related functions at the plant including manufacturing, logistics, manufacturing engineering, tooling, maintenance, material control, purchasing, quality assurance and control, and tooling to ensure safety and quality and to meet and exceed customer and Company requirements.
  • Lead and direct both strategic planning and tactical execution of manufacturing, manufacturing support, and administration functions.
  • Lead manufacturing supervision in utilizing Total Quality Production System (TQPS) techniques to standardize processes/methods and to identify manufacturing problems and raw materials/components supply, and eliminate waste.
  • Ensure that feasibility studies are carried out correctly for the products to be manufactured at the facility, compatible with the footprint, investment, and quality capabilities planned.
  • Develop and monitor Lean activities and a manufacturing continuous improvement system.
  • Review launch products and engineering changes implementation and provide direction for successful launch.
  • Review status of new launch activity and profitability at each event via program reviews.
  • Plan and organize layouts for line changes due to volume changes or staffing reductions.
  • Maintain contact with interdepartmental managers to provide feedback when dealing with process or material changes.
  • Meet with managers, project teams, suppliers, customers and others on an as needed basis to help to resolve problems for new launch preparation, quality issues, cost reduction proposals and give direction if required.
  • Maintain high quality performance to customers by supporting activities such as lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, quality audits, weekly quality meetings, and others to achieve world class quality.
  • Ensure all parts are made to customer requirements in accordance with Company policy.
  • Hold daily staff meetings to communicate daily objectives and discuss successes, failures, and countermeasure activity.
  • Conduct a daily review of the production floor condition in order to assess shop floor activities and give direction as needed.
  • Maintain Master Capacity Plan for the facility for accurate budget and capital needs.

     
  1. Understand and execute all plant policies and procedures.
  • Structure and implement plant policies and procedures to ensure safe and efficient operation of the Company and its employees.
  • Promote a safe and healthy working environment and compliance with federal and state safety regulations by monitoring safety and health awareness and corrective action activities.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance in all areas of responsibility to include those related to environmental and transportation areas together with identification, handling and disposal of hazardous wastes.
  • Ensure alignment of plant policies and procedures, including employee handbook, with Company policies and procedures.
  • Manage plant practices and procedures in compliance with Company and industry standards (e.g., ISO-9001-2015).

 

  1. Lead development and management of annual plan, budget, key measures, operating efficiency, and cost control.
  • Develop annual plan and budget for plant aligned with corporate goals as the foundation to keep the plant moving in a safe, quality conscious, and efficient upward trend.
  • Oversee the development, approve, and submit annual expense, capital, and staffing plan for use in 4Front’s annual business plan.
  • Develop and coordinate plant’s annual business plan and track performance against the plan.
  • Review quotations of new products to ensure compliance with the manufacturing footprint and investment/manpower plans.
  • Administer annual plan that incorporates safety, quality, productivity, cost reduction, and employee morale.
  • Develop, plan, and maintain the budget for plant including making adjustments to achieve targets.  Maintain direct and indirect labor budgets while meeting quality and order fill requirements.
  • Review and track posted daily, weekly, and monthly goals (including Key Measure targets and results), spot potential problems, and lead in formulating and implementing short-term and long-term countermeasures and solutions.
  • Review and plan headcount weekly for labor cost control and operating equipment efficiency (OEE).
  • Support and resolve accounts receivable issues with the finance team to ensure timely collection.
  • Oversee the monthly reporting documents that are finalized for the plant, ensuring accuracy and completion.  Report out monthly reports with targets.  Conduct Monthly Management Review meetings.
  • Lead management discussions and planning sessions to help formulate cost reduction, waste reduction, product improvement, and problem solving activities, and present operational performance daily/weekly.
  • Review monthly financial and expense reports to determine actions or areas which need improvement to improve profitably or to reduce cost.

 

  1. Act as key contact for customers and local industry groups.
  • Conduct plant tours and host customer meetings as required.
  • Support activities to develop and improve customer relations and obtain future business opportunities.
  • Develop relationships with local industry groups including those related to manufacturing, automotive, human resources, education and training, legal services, and finance.
  • Participate in community relations activities to promote 4Front as a concerned citizen.

 

  1. Manage and direct staff in assigned manufacturing group with a focus on equipment, processes, human resource allocation, cost management, setting priorities, removing roadblocks, and leading through problem identification and resolution, and implementation of short- and long-term corrective actions to manufacturing problems.
  • Assign production and engineering staff to support all assigned projects on time and budget with accepted quality.
  • Lead staff in activities to meet and improve standard costs of operation both in material and output; minimize downtime; maintain good 5S at all times; reduce cost of quality internal/external failure and PPM; optimize material utilization; optimize raw material, WIP, and finished goods inventory; improve material specifications; and maintain preventative maintenance program.
  • Develop and maintain positive employee relations centered on mutual trust, dignity, respect, fairness, consistency, two-way communication, teamwork, and harmony.
  • Provide direction and motivation to employees emphasizing quality, efficiency, productivity, cost reduction, safety and health, and morale.
  • Ensure further development of employees through performance evaluation, development of training plans, feedback, coaching, and cascade training.  Update employee training matrix and schedule any needed training.
  • Conduct monthly meetings with employees to communicate state of business.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, engineering, operations management, supply chain, or related discipline. 
  • 10-15 years of relevant functional leadership experience as a manager in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in engineering with a focus on engineering management, design and manufacturing is preferred.
  • Practical experience and working knowledge of Basic Equipment Care (BEC) and Preventive Maintenance Optimization (PMO) systems for machinery, tooling, and gauges.
  • Practical experience applying Lean principles in a manufacturing environment.
  • Practical experience applying Total Quality Production System (TQPS) principles in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Experience working with integrated computer programs and/or applications.

Computer Skills

 

Certificates, Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Lean Six Sigma certification preferred.

 

Other Skills, Abilities, or Competencies:

  • General understanding and working knowledge of manufacturing, assembly, sewing, and welding equipment and tooling including design, gauges, equipment design, automation, robotics, or manufacturing processes.
  • Working knowledge of material types specifications and characteristics used in dock levelers, dock seals & shelters, impactable dock doors, high speed and high performance doors, and other entrance automation products and warehouse solutions.
  • Thorough understanding of company product, trade terminology, quality management and control systems and techniques, manufacturing processes including material controls, work flow, scheduling, just-in-time/pull system, machine operation, and company policies as standards. 
  • Requires strong knowledge of the production process, Lean, just-in-time/pull system, housekeeping/5S, and related manufacturing techniques.
  • Ability to read instruction manuals, blue prints, and specifications including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD & T). 
  • Ability to monitor and adjust operating plans and budgets as needed to achieve operational goals, cost reduction objectives, and/or profitability targets.
  • Ability to implement plans to control and maintain safety, quality, 5S, cost, and efficiency for assigned areas.
  • Ability to teach managers, supervisors, and employees in basic fundamental skills and facilitate Job Instruction Training (JIT).
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Working knowledge of statistical data entry and utilization of trend analysis.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. 
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

 

Other Qualifications, Experience, or Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time to visit customers, suppliers, and other manufacturing sites.
  • Requires a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle while carefully observing all traffic rules and regulations.
  • Requires the ability to use a variety of office/production related equipment such as a telephone, photocopier, facsimile machine, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Work beyond the traditional 40 hours per week may be required as workload or projects dictate, including weekends and holidays.
