Director, IT Applications

     

 

Position Summary:  The Director, IT Applications provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the IT applications team and is responsible for design, development, implementation, support, sustainment, and continuous improvement of the JDE Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and MES (Manufacturing Execution System) systems and applications.

 

 

  1. Description of Essential Job Functions:
  1. Contribute to and execute the enterprise application strategy aligned with business objectives and IT roadmap.
  2. Oversee the lifecycle of enterprise applications (ERP and supporting applications), including performance, security, and maintenance.
  3. Supervise, mentor, and lead the IT applications team.
    • Coordinate and prioritize day-to-day team assignments and project tasks.
    • Provide training to team on ERP and MES systems skills – setup, problem solving, functionality, etc.
  1. Manage relationships, contracts, and service level agreements (SLAs) with software vendors and third-party developers.
  2. Develop and support IT application policy, process, and procedures.
  3. Provide strategic leadership for the ongoing operational development, data integrity, integration, and security of ERP and MES systems. Oversee planning, coordination, and execution of issue resolution across the full system lifecycle, including development, testing, and troubleshooting. Drive continuous improvement by identifying efficiencies within existing platforms and leading the planning and implementation of new systems and processes that enable business units to achieve strategic objectives while maintaining alignment with enterprise IT architecture standards.
  4. Balance and communicate priorities across business units to maximize efficiencies and promote strategic company goals.
  5. Interact with management as required to carry out duties and to determine business needs and priorities.
  6. Support the Senior Director, Information Technology in application‑related budget preparation and planning.
  7. Lead the integration of business stakeholder needs by overseeing the evaluation of business requirements, translating them into ERP and MES application strategies and module roadmaps, and driving recommendations that optimize business processes. Ensure the development of clear functional specifications and validate solutions with stakeholders to deliver scalable, value‑driven outcomes.

 

  1. Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or similar discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience as a leader or project leader in an IT capacity preferred.

Business Systems (i.e., ERP, MES)

  • Minimum of 7+ years of systems planning, support, conceptual design, and feasibility study experience in a medium to large organization of a complex diverse nature.
  • At least 7 years of experience supporting ERP and/or MES applications software and the administrative (financial controls), manufacturing, and/or supply chain planning and execution process with emphasis on functional process analysis and implementation.  Significant experience in a large manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Expertise supporting full cycle implementation, which includes Gap Analysis, Requirements gathering, Blueprinting, Development, Testing, Reporting, Go-live and Post Go-live support.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in ERP Financial System and functional system analysis is preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in business systems analysis, enterprise applications, and operational or management reporting.
  • Formal training or certification in business analysis, ITIL, project management, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to enable and guide data‑driven decision‑making, leveraging analytics,  and insights across business and IT stakeholders.
  • Proven experience leading change management and organizational learning initiatives, supporting application adoption, process improvement, and continuous capability development.

Business Process Management

  • 5-7 years of experience in business process management in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading application implementations and driving business process improvement initiatives to optimize performance and inform decision‑making.
  • Experience overseeing business application development and configuration, ensuring optimized business processes, intuitive user experiences (UI/UX), seamless system integrations, and the design and standardization of scalable, fit‑for‑purpose solutions.
  • Project management expertise and in-depth experience developing software and business process testing scripts and procedures is preferred.

Computer Skills

  • Proficiency with a personal computer utilizing spreadsheet and word processing software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
  • Advanced/Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Office Suite; Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred.
  • Experience with JDE ERP and/or MES system configuration and integration.
  • Experience/Exposure to JDE ERP modules such as but not limited to Material Management, Production Planning, Warehouse Management/Inventory Management, Master Data Governance, Distribution, Finance, and Transportation Management.
  • Experience with BI tools.
  • Experience with various reporting tools against Progress and/or SQL databases.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project/Smartsheet or other project management tools preferred.

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of financial principles, policies, procedures/processes, and reporting requirements is preferred.
  • Expert in problem solving, analytical skills, and troubleshooting skills associated with the integration of multiple IT systems.
  • Deep knowledge of business process modeling, structured analysis, design, programming techniques, lean practices and/or continuous quality improvement methods.

 

Other Qualifications, Experience, or Requirements:

  • Business travel in the field for internal customer support.
  • Requires a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle while carefully observing all traffic rules and regulations.
  • Work beyond the traditional 40 hours per week will be required as workload or projects dictate, including weekends and/or holidays.
