HID Global is seeking an Equipment Design & Automation Engineer to be an integral member of the Manufacturing Engineering NPI Team.

 

The Engineer is primarily responsible for design and development of bespoke equipment, test equipment, jigs & fixtures and equipment supporting incubation and contract manufacturing requirements. Primarily the focus is on new product introduction & sustaining effort with a focus on production processes for electronic products.

Essential Duties

  • Design automated equipment and fixtures in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) selecting appropriate components at the right quality & cost.
  • Develop Industrial Control systems including PLC programming and motion control.
  • Develop electrical schematics and wiring for automated machinery.
  • Integrate automation cells and production equipment into manufacturing lines.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team across Manufacturing Engineering, Product Engineering, Quality and Operations.
  • Own assigned NPI & Sustaining work packages from concept to FAT/SAT and handover to Operations.
  • Commission equipment at HID and Contract Manufacturer sites; troubleshooting and optimize during mass production ramp up.
  • Produce 3d printed samples of designs for rapid prototyping & validation.

 

Primary Duties

  • Design equipment and jigs and fixtures.
  • Prototype equipment, jigs & fixtures and perform validation checks.
  • Work collaboratively with equipment manufacturers and vendors to design cost effective solutions.
  • Prepare Business Case and host reviews and ROIC.
  • Bom’s and costings.
  • Process capability and launch readiness.
  • Project Management SAFe.
  • Lean manufacturing principles and process optimization.
  • Problem solving and trouble shooting under time constraints.

 

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related) with equivalent work experience or at least 7 years related experience in Equipment design and/or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Experience in Contract Manufacturing environments and NPI transfers is advantageous.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks (or equivalent)
  • Programming skills (Python, C/C++, or similar) for custom automation scripts
  • Strong communication and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Flexible, decisive, and proactive problem solver; team oriented and dependable.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

 

Advantageous Experience:

  • Knowledge of advanced manufacturing and equipment manufacturing such as automation equipment (PLC programming, motion control and automation principles)
  • Proven experience deploying automation and bespoke production equipment and commissioning.
  • Strong grasp of Lean manufacturing principles and process optimization and scaling for mass production
  • Exposure to Advanced technologies Industry 4.0 concepts (IoT, smart sensors, data analytics, AI and machine learning for predictive maintenance.

 

Work Requirements

  • Compliance with all relevant HID Global policies and procedures related to Quality, Security, Safety, Business Continuity, and Environmental systems.
  • Travel and fieldwork, including international travel may be required. Therefore, employee must possess, or be able to acquire a valid passport.
