Position Summary: The AI (Artificial Intelligence) Intern supports the Innovation & Engineering team and is responsible for applying AI and machine learning techniques to real-world challenges in manufacturing, logistics, and product development. This role works alongside experienced engineers and program managers to explore how AI can optimize operations, improve predictive maintenance, and enhance product intelligence.
I. Description of Essential Job Functions:
- General
- Collaborate on AI/ML projects focused on predictive analytics, computer vision, and process optimization.
- Assist in data collection, cleaning, and preparation from industrial systems and sensors.
- Develop and test machine learning models using Python and relevant libraries.
- Support integration of AI solutions into existing engineering workflows and tools.
- Research emerging AI technologies and present insights to cross-functional teams.
- Document experiments, findings, and recommendations for future implementation.
- Key Projects
- Natural Language Processing for Technical Documentation and Customer Assistance
- Create tools that extract insights or summarize large volumes of technical manuals, service logs, or customer feedback.
- Intelligent Dashboard Development
- Build interactive dashboards that visualize AI model outputs, operational KPIs, and predictive insights for decision-makers.

- Predictive Maintenance Modeling
- Use sensor and equipment data to build machine learning models that predict failures or maintenance needs.
- Help reduce downtime and optimize service schedules.
- Computer Vision for Safety Monitoring
- Develop image recognition models to detect unsafe conditions or behaviors in loading dock environments.
- Integrate with camera systems for real-time alerts.
- Energy Usage Optimization
- Analyze facility energy consumption patterns using AI to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
- Anomaly Detection in Operational Data
- Build models to detect unusual patterns in equipment performance, logistics, or production metrics.
- AI-Driven Quality Control
- Use image or sensor data to automate inspection processes and identify defects in manufactured components.
- Forecasting Demand and Inventory
- Apply time-series forecasting to predict product demand and optimize inventory levels across distribution centers.
- Simulation and Optimization of Dock Operations
- Use reinforcement learning or optimization algorithms to simulate and improve loading dock workflows.
- AI-Powered Product Recommendation Engine
- Develop a system that suggests optimal equipment configurations based on customer needs and historical data.

Education and Experience:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong foundation in Python and experience using libraries such as pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
Computer Skills
- Requires the ability to use a personal computer utilizing spreadsheet and word processing software.
- Proficient in using business applications software (MS Office) and specialized project management (MS Project) applications.

Other Qualifications, Experience, or Requirements:
- Requires a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle while carefully observing all traffic rules and regulations.
- Work beyond the traditional 40 hours per week may be required as workload or projects dictate, including weekends and holidays.
