Technician, Engineering

     

 

The Engineering Technician is responsible for providing technical and administrative assistance to the Lead Product Design Engineer in all stages of product creation, from early concepts and prototyping to testing and preparing for manufacturing. Their role involves applying technical skills to turn design specifications into physical prototypes and supporting the transition to full production.

Description of Essential Job Functions:

  1. Prototyping and Fabrication
  • Create parts for prototypes using various equipment, which may include CNC machines, welding, and assembly tasks.

  1. Design and Documentation
  • Create and maintain detailed fabrication and assembly drawings including product MAPS, create Computer-Aided Design (CAD) models, and develop Bill of Materials (BOMs).
  • Review drawings for conformance to established engineering standards.

 

  1. Testing and Analysis
  • Assist with on-site and field testing of prototypes, monitoring and recording results, and performing quality assurance checks.
  • Create test procedures and test programs for production and maintain and update automated test equipment and programs.

 

  1. Manufacturing Support
  • Act as a liaison between design engineering and production, helping transition projects to manufacturing, and assisting with creating work instructions and product manuals. 
  • Create jigs for repair and production.
  • Provide ongoing support to production to ensure products are being built properly and efficiently while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Maintain all revision logs for repair test procedures and production MAPS and documentation of assembly procedures.
  • Create, manage, and close ECOs.
  • Ensure proper manufacturing documentation is provided to internal/external parties.
  • Provide technical support and training to internal customers.

 

  1. Problem Solving
  • Participate in engineering and design reviews, conferring with production personnel to resolve problems, and performing failure analysis on test samples.

 

  1. Process Improvement
  • Assist in developing processes for quality control and identifying areas for process improvement and optimization in manufacturing.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Diploma in engineering technology, relevant engineering certificate from college or technical school; or equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical, mechanical, and/or electromechanical development, repair, or manufacturing.
  • Experience with using various measuring instruments and shop tools.

 

Computer Skills

  • Ability to use a personal computer utilizing spreadsheet and word processing software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
  • Advanced/Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Office Suite; Word, Excel, Smartsheet, and PowerPoint preferred.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or other 3D design software.
  • Experience with Altium or other PCB Design software.
  • Experience with Linux, C/C++ and Python.
