Quality Engineer

Job Responsibilites:

Quality Engineer must perform the following tasks:

  • Provide quality support as needed for the mechanical products (Mortise Locks, Bored Locks, Exit Devices, and Keys & Cylinders) of the business.
  • Assess quality issues that arise in production to identify the cause, contain the problem and initiate corrective action.
  • Create Nonconformance Reports and work with production and suppliers to establish corrective actions for nonconformances. Participate on corrective action teams and verify corrective action effectiveness.
  • Oversee the Material Review Boards for mechanical products to ensure the timely disposition of nonconforming material.
  • Review and approve temporary deviations from standards.
  • Oversee packline audits to detect wrong and missing products from orders.
  • Perform packline, pick-n-pack, quality and SPAR inspections of outgoing product.
  • Reduce wrong and missing customer complaints through root cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Work with production and engineering teams to resolve defective customer complaints.
  • Evaluate customer returns of defective locks for root cause.
  • Create Quality Alerts to notify production of high risk issues.
  • Design, develop, implement and audit quality tools such as scan verify and pick-to-light for assembly/pack lines.
  • Design, develop, implement and audit poka-yoke solutions to prevent quality problems.
  • Establish audit plans for in-process inspection and ensure defined requirements have been met.
  • Assist with gage calibration, as well as Receiving and First Article inspections as needed,
  • Participate in new product launches to support quality initiatives.
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineers with in-process testing of locks and evaluate effectiveness in the execution of those tests.

                       

Experience/Education

Bachelors degree in Engineering or other specialized field required. 3+ years experience working in Quality Assurance role. Strong mechanical, analytical project management and problem solving skills. Ability to design, develop and execute inspection/test protocols. Six Sigma Green or Black Belt a plus. Must have the ability to read and interpret drawings, including GD&T. Knowledge and use of mechanical inspection equipment preferred.
