Service Technician - Tier 2

Job Title: Field Service Technician – Tier II 

Location:Seattle, WA Area

FLSA Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt 

 

Position Summary:   

The Field Service Technician – Tier II provides professional technical support and customer service in person and/or by phone to clients in and around the Seattle, WA area. This position is responsible for performing advanced troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of parking access and revenue control systems (PARCS), including both hardware and software components. The Tier II Technician demonstrates proficiency in diagnosing and resolving network, electrical, and mechanical issues, and collaborates closely with higher-level support teams to ensure seamless system functionality.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Perform advanced field repairs on parking and building access systems, including hardware, software, and low-voltage electrical components.
  • Diagnose complex technical problems and troubleshoot to board-level components.
  • Configure and troubleshoot LAN network setups, including routers, switches, and modems.
  • Assist in the configuration of firewalls and other network security devices under guidance from senior technicians.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters, network testers, signal toners) to identify and resolve equipment malfunctions.
  • Execute preventative maintenance, including scheduled inspections, cleaning, adjustments, and system optimization.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, ensuring clear communication, timely updates, and professional support.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and service details within the ERP system.
  • Manage and maintain service vehicle readiness and inventory.
  • Communicate effectively with service coordinators, management, and customers to support efficient field operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Skills/Experience Required:   

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required: 

  • Must be 21+ years old with a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to travel locally for field service assignments.
  • Proficient with Windows Server (2008–2016), Windows OS (7, 10+), SQL, and network firewall configuration.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex network and software issues.
  • Strong technical aptitude and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Experience with PARCS or access control systems preferred.
  • Independent, reliable, and professional communicator—capable of managing workload and documenting work accurately.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Must complete required SKIDATA technical certification training within 24 months of hire (or have prior equivalent certification).

 

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree in electronics, IT, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in field service, electronics, networking, or a related technical field.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

 

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Valid Driver's License, in state of residence.  
 
Physical Demands:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Employees must meet physical demands essential to the role, including frequent driving, standing, walking, and manual tasks requiring hand dexterity. The job involves lifting/moving 50+ pounds, working at heights, and assembling small parts. Strong vision, balance, and stamina are required for prolonged standing and the use of various tools, including construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing instruments such as oscilloscopes and ammeters. 
 
Work Environment:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and/or automobiles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud.  

Travel:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             There may be occasional travel outside of the employee’s regular region; this travel may be by airplane or vehicle and will be planned with as much advanced notice as possible. 

Schedule:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with occasional weekend availability upon advance notice. Flexibility is required based on business needs, which may include overtime, weekend shifts, or extended hours beyond the standard schedule. Technicians participate in an on-call rotation one week per month. Supervisors will provide advance notice when possible and distribute hours equitably among qualified employees
