The Release and Deployment Manager is responsible for the full application lifecycle of release management, covering the Staging, Training and Live Environments.


This is a hands-on technical manager that will also stage and install systems in the field at customer premises as well as manage a team of System Implementation engineers and DevOps engineers.

As our Release Engineering Manager you’ll support HID’s success by: 


  • Develop direct reports.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive culture within the team.
  • Ensure coordination of build activities across the various teams
  • Ensure the team build on the documentation provided by Dev team (functional specs, HLSA, STS etc) creating additional installation guides, operations calendars, backup plans, failover guides, and health check documents.
  • Be a point of contact and escalation for PMs, scheduling resources to meet contracted deadlines.
  • Maintains standards at all times, holding the business and stakeholders to account for delivery of project objectives (time and quality).
  • Identify, quantify, prioritize, and manage deployment and quality risks; contributing to the project risk mitigation plans.
  • Manage all aspects of the release processes
  • Develop and improve release processes, work instructions and release notes
  • Document the release and deployment methodology, procedures and checklists incorporating updates through continuous improvement and feedback loops.
  • Ensure teams follow the established policies and procedures
  • Coordinate and oversee build, release and deployment activities (release package design, scripting, build and configuration)
  • Ensuring the successful deployment of solutions in customer sites.
  • Ensure deployments do not impact on the availabity of critical systems, minimizing downtime for all deployments into the Live environment.
  • Liaise with key stageholders such as the Change Manger, internal technical teams such as Development Leads, Quality Assurance Lead, Customer representatives, and the various vendors.
  • Chairing technical meetings and presenting to a varied stakeholder group.
  • Be held accountable for timely communication of status or critical decisions needed from accountable executives - Proactively identify options/recommendations
  • Manage work package leads to achieve project goals and objectives
  • Participate in the Core Team reporting on work packages.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction, overcoming obstacles, and escalating concerns when required.
  • Other duties may be assigned as required.

Your Qualifications and Experience include: 


  • Higher level education in software engineering or computer science, or have equivalent experience
  • Degree in Computer Science or related field desirable, but not essential
  • Requires a minimum of 7 years’ experience of release and deployment in controlled environments (M2 or P4).  
  • Experience working internationally.
  • Must be able to demonstrate experience leading release activities in multi-site, multi-client and multiple environments.
  • Experience of senior stakeholder management.
  • Experience of working with 3rd party suppliers.
  • Proven track-record delivering projects. Demonstrated ability to drive the planning, execution and operation of complex projects that span across several business areas.



Technical Skills:


  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Background in IT.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft server, and/or Linux operating systems e.g. RHEL/OpenShift, installation and cofiguration.
  • Understanding of network topologies and common network protocols and services.
  • Knowledge of VM technologies.
  • Knowledge of installing and configuring firewalls.
  • Knowledge of SQL Server, and/or Oracle.
  • Experience creating build configurations and pipelines (Octopus Deploy, VSTS/Azure DevOps, Node.js, NuGet, MSBuild, Nexus, Dotnet Core).
  • Experience administering version control systems such as VSTS / Git.
  • Experience of Windows & Linux containers and orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes) · NodeJS, Angular, React.
