Senior Prototyping Technician

 

Summary

The Senior Prototyping Technician is responsible for building, testing, and evaluating prototype designs for RFID transponders, cards, and inlays. This role supports product development through hands-on assembly, precise measurement, and data documentation, contributing to the continuous improvement of HID’s product lines. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation, experience in prototyping, and a commitment to high-quality standards.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Build and test prototypes of RFID transponders, cards, and inlays based on specifications from R&D engineers
  • Assist in product development activities focused on HF, LF, and UHF tags, supporting iterative design improvements
  • Record, document, and archive all test data in official test reports
  • Maintain laboratory tools and equipment, ensuring they are in optimal working condition for prototyping and testing
  • Identify and propose new tooling and equipment to expand the laboratory’s capabilities as needed
  • Collaborate with the Engineering team by providing prototypes and test results to support new product development
  • Maintain a record of all prototypes delivered for customer trials and feedback.
  • Integrate new assembly, packaging, and prototyping technologies into the production of electronic units within cards and prelaminates
  • Develop expertise in coil winding and embedding manufacturing as well as lamination processes for card and inlay production
  • Participate actively in global engineering projects and contribute to cross-functional initiatives within the organization
  • Assist in special engineering projects and tasks as assigned, contributing technical insights and practical support as needed

Education and/or Experience

  • Degree or Diploma in Electronics/Engineering, or at least 3 years of experience in design prototyping
  • Proficient in manual assembly of small electronic components, preferably in RFID or related electronic technologies.
  • Skilled in recording and analyzing measurement data accurately and maintaining detailed documentation.
  • Familiarity with HF, LF, and UHF technologies and their application in product development will be considered as an asset

 

Language Skills                   

  • Fluent in spoken and written English

 

Proficiencies

  • MS Office suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Computer-Aided Design software: Autodesk AutoCAD, DraftSight
  • Project management tool: Atlassian JIRA, MIRO, or Smartsheet is an asset

  • Travel and fieldwork may include international travel, therefore employee must possess or can acquire a valid Passport.
