HID is seeking a highly motivated Credential Development Engineer responsible for researching, developing, validating, and industrializing new credential products and technologies. This individual will lead hands-on development activities including experimental design, process development, material evaluation, product validation, risk assessment, and manufacturing readiness.
The role serves as a technical expert responsible for generating the knowledge, processes, specifications, and validation data required to successfully develop new products. By combining customer requirements, market opportunities, manufacturing capabilities, and regulatory requirements, the Product Development Engineer will develop robust, compliant, and scalable solutions that expand HID's credential portfolio and support future business growth.

As our Credential Development Engineer, you’ll support HID’s success by:
- Developing, testing, and implementing new credential products, technologies, and manufacturing processes.
- Designing and executing experiments to evaluate materials, technologies, and product concepts.
- Translating customer and market needs into manufacturable, scalable, and compliant solutions.
- Establishing product specifications, validation plans, and manufacturing requirements.
- Ensuring compliance with HID, industry, regulatory, and ISO standards.
- Identifying and mitigating technical, quality, and manufacturing risks.
- Supporting product industrialization, pilot builds, and production implementation.
- Documenting development activities, test results, and process requirements.
- Collaborating across Product Management, Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain teams.
- Researching emerging technologies and drive innovation within the credential product portfolio.
Your Experience and Background include:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in product development, process development, manufacturing engineering, R&D, new product introduction (NPI), or related technical roles.
- Proven experience developing products from concept through commercialization, including experimentation, validation, and production implementation.
- Experience designing, executing, and analyzing experiments to evaluate products, materials, technologies, or manufacturing processes.
- Strong technical problem-solving and root cause analysis skills with the ability to translate findings into practical solutions.
- Experience developing manufacturing processes, work instructions, specifications, validation plans, and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of quality systems, process validation methodologies, and continuous improvement practices.
- Experience working in cross-functional environments involving Product Management, Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Supply Chain teams.
- Ability to evaluate technical, quality, manufacturing, and supply chain risks and develop mitigation plans.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical information to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency with data analysis, technical reporting, and standard Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience within the credentials, smart card, security, identification, printing, electronics, or related industries is preferred.
- Hands-on experience applying Design for Manufacturability (DfM), Design of Experiments (DOE), and risk-based engineering principles to develop products and processes that are technically robust, compliant, scalable, and production-ready is preferred.
- Knowledge of credential technologies, security features, card manufacturing processes, personalization technologies, or secure document production is preferred.
- Knowledge of ISO standards, quality management systems, and regulatory compliance requirements is preferred.
- Experience evaluating and implementing new manufacturing equipment, materials, and technologies is preferred.
- Familiarity with product lifecycle management (PLM), change control processes, and new product introduction frameworks is preferred.
- Experience supporting pilot builds, process qualification, and manufacturing scale-up activities is preferred.
