The Commodity Manager (NAM) will be responsible for overseeing direct HID Secure Issuance’s North American supply base, managing indirect nominated suppliers that support HID’s contract manufacturers across multiple printer-related commodities (cables, rollers, PCAs, packaging, molded plastic parts).
This individual will serve as the primary liaison between the regional supplier base and global manufacturing partners, balancing day-to-day procurement activity with strategic initiatives such as supplier sourcing, cost optimization, contract negotiation, and performance management. Success in this role requires not only procurement expertise, but also a strong technical mindset - the ability to engage in supplier process reviews, interpret product specifications, and support quality or manufacturability investigations.
With broad visibility across direct and indirect hardware suppliers, the Commodity Manager (NAM) plays a key part in enabling regional sourcing strategies, ensuring supply chain resilience, and preparing for future insourcing initiatives as business needs evolve. The ideal candidate is confident engaging cross-functionally with engineering and supplier quality teams and will be expected to travel regionally to develop supplier relationships and support continuous improvement efforts.

As our Commodity Manager Specialist, you’ll support HID’s success by:
- Acting as a strategic liaison between HID’s North American supply base and contract manufacturers in APAC across a wide range of product categories, ensuring continuity of supply, quality, and cost competitiveness
- Leading the RFQ, negotiation, and cost reduction initiatives for assigned commodities in North America
- Identifying and evaluating potential new suppliers based on commodity strategy, cost structure, and risk profile
- Collaborating with suppliers on technical specifications and process capabilities, ensuring alignment with HID design and performance requirements
- Supporting escalations from operations teams tied to supplier performance gaps
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams including Procurement, Manufacturing Engineering, and Supplier Quality to support issue resolution, process improvements, and cost-saving initiatives
- Monitoring supplier performance, identifying risks, and leading corrective action planning in collaboration with stakeholders
- Maintaining ongoing supplier business reviews and continuous improvement dialogues
- Maintaining all documentation related to supplier onboarding, contract terms, cost tracking, and compliance with internal sourcing and trade guidelines
- Supporting supplier visits and onsite evaluations, with a focus on quality assurance support in the absence of dedicated QA staff in North America
- Developing and implementing a regional sourcing strategy for North America, aligned with global procurement goals and cost reduction targets
- Collaborating with global sourcing counterparts (EMEA, APAC) to align shared suppliers, market trends, and regional sourcing opportunities
- Participating in global procurement initiatives including supplier base consolidation, cost modeling, and process harmonization between EMEA and NAM/APAC regions
- Contributing to supplier development efforts by identifying process improvement opportunities and collaborating with internal stakeholders to implement corrective actions or efficiency gains
- Staying informed on market conditions, raw material trends, and regional trade/tariff developments, adjusting sourcing strategy as needed
- Preparing regular reporting on supplier performance, risk exposure, and savings pipeline
- Providing input into future insourcing or manufacturing localization strategies, including feasibility, supplier readiness, and capacity planning
Your Experience and Background include:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Engineering, or related field (required)
- 7+ years in procurement, strategic sourcing, or commodity management, preferably in manufacturing or production environment
- Demonstrated experience managing both direct and indirect suppliers across multiple commodity categories
- Strong technical aptitude required, including the ability to engage in technical conversations with suppliers, interpret engineering drawings/specs, and support basic root cause investigations in the absence of a local quality engineer
- Proven success working in a global procurement organization or matrixed environment
- Knowledge of supply management strategies and tools such as production planning, scheduling, operations planning and inventory control
- Strong negotiation skills with a deep understanding of cost drivers, contracts, and supplier performance management
- Proficiency in preparing and presenting supplier scorecards, reports, and sourcing analyses
- Regional travel within North America expected
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Familiarity with ERP systems (Oracle preferred)

- Proficiency in a second language - particularly French, Mandarin, Japanese, or other languages commonly used in our supplier base - is highly preferred but not required
- Strong understanding of total cost of ownership (TCO) and lifecycle cost modeling
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles or Six Sigma tools a plus
- Previous participation in new product introduction (NPI) or early supplier involvement programs is a bonus, even if limited
- Familiarity with compliance regulations such as REACH, RoHS, Prop 65, or trade compliance/tariff mitigation strategies
- Experience with procurement or supplier quality systems is a plus
- Experience with data analytics software (Power BI, Tableau, Oracle Analytics) is a plus
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% of the time

The wage range for this role considers a broad scope of factors that are considered when making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range does not account for geographic differentials based on the location where the position may be filled. At HID, it is uncommon for individuals to be hired at or near the top of the range. Final compensation decisions depend on the specific facts and circumstances of each case.
The base salary in the United States is $105,00 to $120,000.
