Working as part of a multidisciplinary team of product development engineers, the successful candidate will be responsible for conducting in-depth technical analysis of HID and competitor PACS (Physical Access Control Systems) products.
This analysis will span a variety of areas, including packaging and accessories, as well as detailed teardown of products down to the circuit board and individual components, to document comparative technical data.
The primary objective of this role is to analyze how both internal and external solutions incorporate standard and cutting-edge features.
The candidate will document these insights to guide the enhancement of existing products or the creation of innovative features for current and future RFID readers and PACS controllers.
Strong collaboration skills are essential, as the role involves working closely with colleagues from various departments, both onsite and internationally.

As our Senior Hardware Engineer, you’ll support HID’s success by:
- User and Technical analysis and reporting of New and Legacy PACS.
- Perform comparative competitor analysis for RFID Readers and Controllers (PACS)
- Assist the engineering and marketing groups in understanding features and specifications of commercially available systems in order to improve feature definition of current and future products.
- Investigating and resolving customer installation issues relating to Physical Access Controllers and PACS RFID Readers by understanding user specific setups and applications.
- Perform Security profiling & Analysis.
- Design and Development of Physical Access Controller electronics.
- Document control and management using Agile lifecycle management.
- Investigating and resolving customer issues relating mainly to Physical Access Controllers and PACS RFID Readers.
- Assist the Hardware NPI (New Product Introduction) Development team with new product designs when needed.
- Assist with Sustaining and VAVE (Value Add / Value Engineering) tasks – cost down investigations, production efficiencies and feature improvements on current products.
- Researching and implementing alternative components to assist with Contract Manufacture / Supply Chain.
Your Experience and Education include:
- Degree level in Engineering or related subject, 3 - 5 years’ experience in Engineering design/test role.
- Technical wiring & setup of access control systems Or communications systems (RS485, Weigand, other)
- Debug tool chain – eg, JTAG, UART, WireShark etc.
- Electronics systems design (Embedded MCU, and Linux based systems)
- Communication Interfaces (eg I2C, I2S, SPI, UART, MIPI DSI)
- FW development (Embedded, iOS, Android)
- SW development for Windows/iOS (C++, C#, Visual Basic, etc)
- Embedded Microcontrollers (eg ARM, Micrchip, AVR, Atmel, STM32)
- Wireless Interfaces (eg BLE, WiFi)
- Ethernet, Including PoE.
- RFID – Desirable.
- Antenna design – Desirable.
- High volume manufacturing processes – Desirable.
- Proficient in MS Office applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Simulation Tools (e.g. CST Studio, LTSpice).
- Collaboration Tools (e.g. Confluence, Wiki).
- Document Control (e.g. Agile PLM).
- Desired: CAD Tools (e.g. Altium, Solidworks).
